Developing Maths Skills in the Primary and Secondary School Classroom workshop

The workshop aims to enable teachers to recognize the development of maths skills as a key element for meaningful learning among primary school students. Furthermore, it seeks to encourage effective interactions in the classroom to promote the emergence of
maths skills among both primary and secondary school students.

Modelling Skills

In this module, Flavio Guíñez, an expert in mathematical modelling, discusses modelling skills using everyday examples and situations. He also provides suggestions for working on this skill in the classroom and recommends a bibliography on the subject.

Argument and Communication Skills

This module is led by the expert Claudia Cornejo, who deals with the ability to argue and communicate in mathematics. She also provides suggestions for working on these skills in the classroom and a bibliography on the subject.

Representation Skills

Expert Andrea Cáceres addresses representation skills, providing a number of strategies for working on the skills in the classroom, and recommends web-based resources to help with further skills development.

Problem-solving Skills

In this module, expert Francisco Rojas reflects on problem solving in the maths classroom and recommends resources and a bibliography on the subject.

Worksheets

This section contains worksheets that help to organize the topics covered during the workshop. The worksheets are provided as complementary material to the synchronous sessions and cover four areas: representations, problem solving, interactions in the classroom that foster the development of maths skills, and the importance of developing maths skills.
